Frederiek Simons      artist, weaver, writer

A childhood memory, slowly fading away. How much of what we know, do we know due to chance? And what remains hidden between the folds of the fabric?

The point of departure for this work was a story I wrote and illustrated when I was 5 years old, entitled De zonnebloem die kon praten (the sunflower that could talk). I printed the story onto a fine set of warp yarns, which allowed me —18 years later— to reintegrate the text and drawings into a woven strip. Thereby I chose to cover or blur some areas and to highlight or emphasise other areas.
