from a to b to fold II

A football scarf carelessly tossed on the floor. Legible just one moment ago, but now reduced to a pile of fabric. How much of what we know, do we know due to chance? And what remains hidden between the folds of the fabric? For this knitted work, I photographed a football scarf in three different conditions whereby its text and logo are almost legible, but not quite. I translated these photographs into one long, knitted strip of fabric.

The work was on view at the Gerrit Rietveld Graduation Show 2019 and Textielfestival x Leiden 2021.

Photos of the knitted strip. Full size (top) and details (bottom).

about

I am a textile artist, researcher, and writer based in Amsterdam. Through my work runs a tangible thread that is spun from questions about materials, hierarchies, traditions, patterns, shapes, and their relations. By means of artistic research, I aim to unravel them and investigate their potential to be interlaced in new ways.
