2021
A collaboration with State of Concept.
What goes on in the mind of someone in exile? Today, the Greek island of Anafi is a picturesque holiday destination. But was during the anti-communist Metaxas regime (1936-1941), it served as a place of exile. In collaboration with State of Concept, I created a set of postcards (kárt postal in Greek) featuring selected poems that speak to exile in a variety of ways. Each poem is paired with reimagined embroidery motifs from Anafi and other Aegean islands (see also: Tracing Aegean Textiles).
During the Phenomena festival in the summer of 2021, the postcards were made available in local shops and taverns, ready to travel toward new geographic and psychological destinations. As part of the project, our team also read the poems aloud to festival visitors at Margerita’s tavern.
Photos of the event by Alexandra Masmanidi. Combined with photos of the individual postcards.

about
I am a textile artist, researcher, and writer based in Amsterdam. Through my work runs a tangible thread spun from questions about materials, patterns, hierarchies, history and traditions. Combining traditional and artistic research methods, I seek to unravel these themes and explore how they can be interlaced in new ways.
