mezedes on the ilissos — a parasitic dinner

dinner, sound installation
2022

A collaboration with Lena Violetta Leitner. Many thanks to Anastassia Papadima and Giorgos Tsiongas.

Lena Violetta Leitiner and I bonded over Greek food and drinks in Athens. During one of our meetings, we wondered: could these shared meals become an artwork? This question led us to organise a dinner with local Athenians and the nearly dried-up Ilissos river as our dinner guests. We were joined by unanticipated guests too, such as birds and orange-throwing teenagers. As parasitic guests in the classic sense of the word (the Greek παράσιτος refers to a person who eats at the table of another), they nestled in our conversations about life, rivers, and parasites.

The project was later presented as a sound installation at State of Concept in Athens, as part of the event Where is the river? on 28 April, 2022.
