mezedes on the ilissos — a parasitic dinner
dinner, sound installation
2022
A collaboration with Lena Violetta Leitner. Many thanks to Anastassia Papadima and Giorgos Tsiongas.
What has happened to the rivers in Athens? This is what Vienna-based artist Lena Violetta Leitner and I asked ourselves. We decided to organise a dinner close to the Ilissos, once a fast-flowing river whose history goes back to Plato’s times. As ‘parasites’ in the classic sense of the word (from the Greek word παράσιτος, referring to a person who eats at the table of another), we shared a meal inside the riverbed. Together with two locals, we discussed Athens’ rivers and our own ‘parasitical’ experiences.
The project was later presented as a sound installation at State of Concept in Athens, as part of the event Where is the river? on 28 April, 2022.
