textile, mixed media
2017
Can a single song spiral into a series of artworks? This project began with drawings I made while listening to the song Bloed, Zweet en Tranen by the famous Dutch folk singer André Hazes. As I continued exploring the themes of these drawings, I became fascinated by roots, rhizomes, turmeric, threads, lines, and knots. As I came to realise, my intuitive research was unfolding much like the growth of rhizomes — not in a straight line, but spreading out in many directions.
The result is a series of drawings and mixed-media works incorporating techniques such as weaving, embroidery, (photo)etching on cotton, natural dyeing with turmeric, pressing PVC plastic sheets onto cotton, and video.
Photos of the series of works.

about
Textile artist, researcher, and writer based in Amsterdam. I work with textiles and other material forms as a way of thinking and researching. In doing so, I treat these materials as tools to expose and unsettle taken-for-granted views and naturalized routines of daily life.
