textile inheritances

artistic researchongoing
How can geneaology, archival research, and textile-making help to reposition textiles as active sites of feminist and situated knowledge production? In this still ongoing project, I put this question to the test by revisiting the ‘stuff’ that comprises my family’s past, from archival records to photo albums. I explore how textiles can serve to trace activities and experiences that have been overlooked, erased, or rendered illegible. At the same time, textile-making emerges as a site for experimentation, from where I can reconstruct these histories and give them visibility — mending the gaps where necessary.

This project-in-progress was presented at Buurtwerkplaats Noorderhof, Amsterdam in June 2025.

about

Textile artist, researcher, and writer based in Amsterdam. I work with textiles and other material forms as a way of thinking and researching. I thereby treat these materials as tools to expose and unsettle taken-for-granted views and naturalized routines of daily life.
